The contest

Win your surfboard

Sign up online, come to La Classique on September 26, and you could leave with a surfboard courtesy of Boutique SHARKS Laval.

  • Fill out the entry form (one entry per person).
  • Follow the Instagram pages of La Classique Vague à Guy, RivSurf and Boutique SHARKS Laval.
  • Be on site on September 26 at the time of the draw.

Important: the draw happens on site, during La Classique. You must be there to win and claim your prize — otherwise we draw another name. Entries close at the men’s final (around 5 p.m.).

What is La Classique?

A day of surfing, music and good company by the river

La Classique Vague à Guy is Montreal’s river surf competition — and a neighbourhood party too: 32 athletes going head to head on the wave, a DJ, booths, food, local beer and family activities, in the park along the St. Lawrence. It’s free, it’s open to everyone, and you can get there by bike.

In 2025, about 2,000 people came on site and 2,600 more followed the competition live. This year, the 3rd edition welcomes surfers from out of town and judges from professional longboarding.

Schedule for Saturday, September 26

The main moments of the day

The competition is streamed live on YouTube and shown on a big screen on site. Times are approximate: the river decides.

Detailed schedule (heats, athlete introductions) posted on social media the week of the event.

  1. Competition opens

    Welcome address, then the women’s and men’s quarter-finals run all morning.

  2. Lunch break — IGA hour

    Booths, food and entertainment in the park.

  3. Back on: last quarter-finals, then semi-finals

    Women’s and men’s semi-finals from 2:30 p.m.

  4. Women’s final
  5. Men’s final — contest entries close

    Last chance to enter for the surfboard.

  6. Gala and prize ceremony

    Hawaiian dance, podiums, people’s choice award, surfboard draw — be there!

  7. DJ set

    We close it out with music, until 8 p.m.

  • The site is on the St. Lawrence, along boulevard LaSalle, near parc des Rapides.
  • No ticket needed. Admission is free for everyone, all day long.
  • Come by bike: racks are set up on site. Otherwise, boulevard LaSalle is served by bus.
  • If it rains, it still happens. The event is only postponed to September 27 in case of flooding.

Is it free?

Yes. La Classique is free and open to everyone, all day long: the competition, the festival, the DJ set.

Do I need a ticket?

No. No ticket, no reservation. You show up, you walk in.

Do I have to be there to win the surfboard?

Yes, absolutely. The draw happens on site on September 26. If the person drawn isn’t there or doesn’t come forward, we draw someone else. Entries close at the men’s final, around 5 p.m.

Where does the event take place?

At Vague à Guy, 8180 boulevard LaSalle, in the LaSalle borough of Montreal, on the St. Lawrence. See the map.

What happens if it rains?

We surf anyway! The event runs rain or shine. It is moved to the next day, September 27, only in case of flooding.
