Thanks for making the wave rise

On Saturday, September 26, the Vague à Guy once again brought together surfers, families, curious onlookers and passing cyclists on the banks of the St. Lawrence. A 3rd edition that wouldn't have happened without you.

  • To the 32 athletes, who surfed all day in front of the stands.
  • To the volunteers, from early-morning setup to the very last recycling bag.
  • To our partners — Stingray, Desjardins Caisse de LaSalle, EauVive LaSalle, Boutique SHARKS Laval and all the others — who keep the event free.
  • To the borough of LaSalle, for opening up the park and the river.
  • To you, who came, cheered and followed the livestream.

And the surfboard? The “Win your surfboard” draw took place on site during the gala, as set out in the rules. Congratulations to the winner, and thanks to everyone who took part!

Looking back on the 3rd edition

A day of surfing, music and good company by the river

On September 26, 2026, La Classique Vague à Guy did what it does best: a high-level river surf competition and a real neighbourhood party. 32 athletes, women and men, on the wave; a DJ, booths, food, local beer and family activities in the park, right by the river. Free and open to everyone.

This 3rd edition welcomed surfers from out of town and judges from professional longboarding.

The day, hour by hour

From the 9 a.m. opening to the DJ’s last track, the competition was streamed live on YouTube and on the giant screen on site.

  1. Competition opens

    Welcome, then the women’s and men’s quarter-finals all morning.

  2. Lunch break — the IGA hour

    Booths, food and entertainment in the park.

  3. Last quarters, then semi-finals

    Women’s and men’s semi-finals from 2:30 p.m.

  6. Gala and awards

    Hawaiian dance, podiums, people’s choice award and the surfboard draw.

  7. DJ set

    We wrapped it up with music until 8 p.m.

    What is La Classique?

    La Classique Vague à Guy is a friendly surf competition and a big celebration of river surfing, organized by RivSurf. It takes place every year at the end of September at the Vague à Guy, in the LaSalle borough of Montreal. The 3rd edition took place on Saturday, September 26, 2026.

    When is the next edition?

    Saturday, September 25, 2027, at the Vague à Guy in LaSalle. Add it to your calendar with the button at the bottom of the page, and follow La Classique on Instagram for the news.

    Will it still be free?

    That’s the goal. La Classique has always been free and open to everyone, thanks to our partners and volunteers. A donation to RivSurf helps keep it that way.

    Where can I find the photos from the event?

    Right here, in the gallery: a selection of photos from our photographers, with their names. If you share a photo, please credit the person who took it.

    The draw took place on site at the September 26 gala, among the registered people who were present, as set out in the rules. The contest is now closed.
